Do I Need a Visa to Visit Egypt?

Yes, the Egyptian government requires all visitors to have a valid visa when visiting the country, including Irish citizens. With that having been said, Irish citizens don’t face any difficulties in acquiring a visa for Egypt. Tourist visas can be applied for in person at your nearest Egyptian embassy. Irish nationals can also obtain a visa on arrival at any international airports in Egypt, including the international airports in Cairo, Luxor, Aswan and Sharm El Sheikh.

The most convenient and most hassle-free option would be to apply online for an Egypt e-Visa. In fact, if you book a luxury Egypt tour or a luxury Nile cruise holiday through us, we will typically apply an e-Visa on your behalf and then hand it to you when we meet you at the airport in Cairo when you arrive.

Is Egypt Safe?

Yes, Egypt is a very safe destination for tourists. The country takes great pride in its reputation for keeping tourists safe. Don’t be surprised if you see police, tourist police, military personnel or some other form of security services present at the various tourist attractions you visit during your Egypt holiday tour. If you are contemplating booking one of our Egypt holidays from Ireland, you may also want to check out the latest travel advisory issued by the Irish government prior to booking your trip.

Is it Safe to Drink Water in Egypt?

Many people wonder if it is safe to drink water in Egypt. In some of the high-end hotels in places like Cairo and Sharm El Sheikh, it is supposedly safe to drink tap water. The same is supposedly true on some of the Nile cruise ships. However, we do not recommend drinking water from the faucets regardless of what hotel you are staying at, or what Nile River cruise you are on. Our advice would be that you only drink bottled water during your stay in Egypt. Bottled water is cheap and plentiful, and in fact, we even provide our clients with free bottled water during tours.

Are Credit Cards and Debit Cards Widely Accepted in Egypt?

You should be able to use your credit card and/or debit card at most major tourists attractions. You should also be able to use them at most modern hotels and large retailers in all major cities such as Cairo, Luxor, Aswan and Sharm. However, in more remote areas we strongly recommend carrying some cash on you for small purchases and etc.

Are Tourists Prevented from Taking Photos?

No, not at all, although we do advise against taking photos of government buildings and/or military installations. Also, taking photographs inside certain tombs is forbidden, while in other you can take photos, but you cannot use a flash. An example of such a site would be the inside of King Tutankhamun’s tomb. Other than that, feel free to take as many pictures as you like when visiting places like the Great Pyramids of Giza, Luxor Temple, or any of the country’s other magnificent temples.
